Sunday's child :)

Birthdays – some like them, some don’t.  I happen to enjoy birthdays.  Today is my birthday and it is a Sunday…. perfect combination!  I was born on a Sunday.  I love that – and my Mom always recited that poem about the day of the week you were born on…and I love that too!

Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
But the child who is born on the Sabbath day
Is fair and wise and good in every way.

So my thought this year was to be in Venice, Italy on my birthday, it’s only 6’ish hours away and a friend of mine lives halfway so we had talked about going together.  That didn’t quite work out but it was even better – I started my birthday last Thursday – so it was a festival this year! J.  I WAS in Venice, Italy on Thursday – and it was amazing!  I mean…who hasn’t watched a bunch of movies that were filmed in Venice?...boats racing on the Grand Canal, treasures being dropped into the water and taken away by boat, love stories and murder scenes on the San Marco Piazza with the many pigeons surrounding them (no, I didn’t feed them).....on and on I could go.  AND I WAS THERE.  I took the boat on the Grand Canal, walked through San Marco Piazza, walked through the beautiful yet narrow alleyways amongst all the canals, ate risotto at a restaurant in Venice…there – I did all that!  Awesome.  Then the next day drove the country roads out of Venice…just meandering and the destination was the Croatian coast that night.  So…what better to do than end up putting my feet in the Adriatic Sea in 3 countries all in 1 day!...Trieste, Italy, Koper, Slovenia and Fažana, Croatia!  It was very fun and the country that we drove through was awesome, beautiful, all so very amazing to see. I enjoyed each moment.  Ended up back in Zagreb, Croatia last night, went to church this morning followed by a yummy Croatian lunch AND my birthday cake was a sundae from McDonalds…yaaaay!  Many family and friends greeted me via Face Time, texts, emails, Facebook and even cards sent here to Hungary…thank you all!  It has been a great birthday – life is good and God is waaaayyy better.  Thank you all – much love from this part of His amazing creation!

So it begins...Ethiopia

New blogger here.  Not sure what I'm doing but I have some amazing people in my life that seem interested in 'following' me during my adventures this summer.  The name of this blog (letusgive) may seem odd but hopefully it will become clear through my subsequent posts - to me as I write it and also to those that read!  Here we go...together! Ethiopia...that is the place I am going for 5 weeks starting June 17th.  I cannot wait and I must admit I'm a bit nervous as well!  Have I been there before?  Yes...once in 2005 for 2 weeks and once in 2007 for 3 weeks.  The 3 week trip was to teach English to high school students.  I fell in love with their beautiful faces, smiles and ambition to learn.  I'm definitely looking forward to seeing them again! Thank you Momma

December 31, 2015 Life is good, God is waaaay better.   I’m starting with that statement this time – I am reassured of that each day – really each hour these past couple of days.   People – family, friends, folks on the street or in the store have all been incredible.   People know – they ‘sense’ hurt and respond appropriately.   That is so very treasured.   My Momma died on Tuesday, December 29th at 13:49 PST.   Dad, Phyllis, Bob via FaceTime, Susan, Nathan, Jesse and I were all there…holding her hand, stroking her arm, leg, shoulder, forehead, making sure she could ‘feel’ us and hoping she could hear us.   I whispered to her a lot that day…the nurses would kind of talk loudly to her as they swabbed out her mouth or did some routine on her.   I couldn’t do that – I wanted to be gentle with my Momma…loud noises would startle her at home recently.   She would wake up and say ‘what was that’…I didn’t want her startled.   I wanted her t...

2 and 2017:)

New year…new me?   Probably not to be totally honest but I do like how 2017 is going so far. I have been living in Hungary for two years.   Now who would have ever believed that when I took off from my amazing company and job of 27 years back in November 2013 that I would have lived six months in Poland, spent six months back in U.S. and then moved to Hungary for two years but planning/hoping on three!? I’m here to tell you – I love how life moves along.   And again to be totally honest, I love moving along with it.
