My last post was on 9/11 – such an emotional day and it ended with me leading an English Bible Study for teenagers using this text: – This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9.  Lots of good vocabulary words to learn in that don’t you think?  I didJ.  I don’t often use the Bible in my posts but this one gets me.  I’m afraid of a lot of things…like I told the kids – dark, snakes, loneliness are just a few amongst many on my list.  So – it’s not easy to be strong and courageous many times but there you have it as a command.  Okay – then lets do this.

Several Hungarians have recently asked me what my take is on the refugee crisis.  I find that interesting – they are asking me.  But you know what?...I honestly think we are living in a historical time.  Not only is this refugee crisis going on but also Putin has a plan.  I don’t know what exactly is going on but something is brewing and I don’t think it’s all for good.  If I dwell on it for a long time – I become afraid of all the events as well.  But I cannot – it does not help anybody or anything.  So instead – move on; help as much as we can, love even more and work like there is no tomorrow.  There is that wall plaque you see all over…live, love, laugh.  I like that…maybe I should make one that says help, love, work:).  Laughing is always good…I certainly enjoy that too!

So the refugee crisis is still going on – Croatia has a lot of need – there are ‘tent cities’ ran by Red Cross and control at the border that is beyond anything seen here in Hungary.  Very interesting to see how the various countries in Europe deal with the people and how they instruct police, army, NGO’s, volunteers or whomever how to deal with the whole situation.  Of course the media has been right there getting their stories, which is good.  The world needs to know – I just trust they report accurately so I’m taking the high road hereJ.

English Clubs + Bible Studies + kids of all ages + teachers = time to take a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) class!  Wow – it’s been a long time since I was a student.  So – lots of time in front of the computer but my hope is that I can prepare and teach better over the next couple of years.  At this point all I feel like I know is that I do speak EnglishJ - seems to get me invited to several groups and so I need to be able to do that as well as teach the language.  Good times – a 10 week online course and some practicum hours.  


So not a real normal post for me I guess…but I can say that life is good – God is waaaay better and that makes me a bit more strong and courageous.  I am very thankful for friends and family scattered all around the world – much love.

So it begins...Ethiopia

New blogger here.  Not sure what I'm doing but I have some amazing people in my life that seem interested in 'following' me during my adventures this summer.  The name of this blog (letusgive) may seem odd but hopefully it will become clear through my subsequent posts - to me as I write it and also to those that read!  Here we go...together! Ethiopia...that is the place I am going for 5 weeks starting June 17th.  I cannot wait and I must admit I'm a bit nervous as well!  Have I been there before?  Yes...once in 2005 for 2 weeks and once in 2007 for 3 weeks.  The 3 week trip was to teach English to high school students.  I fell in love with their beautiful faces, smiles and ambition to learn.  I'm definitely looking forward to seeing them again! This whole year has been a whirlwind so far but bottom line is - I'm preparing to leave Pacific Coast (having worked there for 27 years) and moving onto more mission oriented work - more or less a second career!  Th

Thank you Momma

December 31, 2015 Life is good, God is waaaay better.   I’m starting with that statement this time – I am reassured of that each day – really each hour these past couple of days.   People – family, friends, folks on the street or in the store have all been incredible.   People know – they ‘sense’ hurt and respond appropriately.   That is so very treasured.   My Momma died on Tuesday, December 29th at 13:49 PST.   Dad, Phyllis, Bob via FaceTime, Susan, Nathan, Jesse and I were all there…holding her hand, stroking her arm, leg, shoulder, forehead, making sure she could ‘feel’ us and hoping she could hear us.   I whispered to her a lot that day…the nurses would kind of talk loudly to her as they swabbed out her mouth or did some routine on her.   I couldn’t do that – I wanted to be gentle with my Momma…loud noises would startle her at home recently.   She would wake up and say ‘what was that’…I didn’t want her startled.   I wanted her to go from this world gently, peacefully and walk

European Observations

It is difficult to imagine that I am actually over here for a while!  I still feel like I'm on vacation - I'm sure that will change with time but I am enjoying it here for sure!  Here are some 'reminders' that I have been going over as I go about my daily life here in Europe. 1.  Signs for restrooms?....Very American - look for 'WC' or 'Toilet' here.  By the way - I knew that WC stood for water closet but always thought it was old fashioned.  Not so much - the bathroom in many houses are literally that - the toilet is in its own room or closet - generally separate from the sink, shower etc. 2.  Metric everything!  I remember starting to learn this system in school, back in the day, remind me why America never converted?  Yes...I have new bookmarks and apps on my devices so I can convert. 3.  Dollars - another app I downloaded to convert.  Euro is popular of course...but Hungary uses their own currency (Forint), Poland uses their own currency (Zloty)
